Guardian on the Bus

When I was 14 I was on the bus, an older man was on the phone. It was nighttime and he was speaking Russian. A woman sat down beside me and said “I’ll keep you safe when you get off, that man is planning to kidnap you.” I didn’t know what he was saying in Russian, I didn’t know I was going to be taken from my family if that woman didn’t stop up, and what if no one could understand Russian. I’d be on the news as a missing teenager. Who’d likely never get found again.
